사무엘하 6:1-15 (2 Samuel 6:1-15)

1   다윗이

이스라엘에서 뽑은 무리 삼만 명을 다시 모으고

2   다윗이 일어나

자기와 함께 있는 모든 사람과 더불어 바알레유다로 가서

거기서 하나님의 궤를 메어 오려 하니

그 궤는 그룹들 사이에 좌정하신

만군의 여호와의 이름으로 불리는 것이라

3   그들이 하나님의 궤를 새 수레에 싣고

산에 있는 아비나답의 집에서 나오는데

아비나답의 아들 웃사와 아효가 그 새 수레를 모니라

4   그들이 산에 있는 아비나답의 집에서 하나님의 궤를 싣고 나올 때에

아효는 궤 앞에서 가고

5   다윗과 이스라엘 온 족속은

잣나무로 만든 여러 가지 악기와 수금과 비파와 소고와 양금과 제금으로

여호와 앞에서 연주하더라

6   그들이 나곤의 타작 마당에 이르러서는 소들이 뛰므로

웃사가 손을 들어 하나님의 궤를 붙들었더니

 
7   여호와 하나님이 웃사가 잘못함으로 말미암아 진노하사

그를 그 곳에서 치시니

그가 거기 하나님의 궤 곁에서 죽으니라

 

8   여호와께서 웃사를 치시므로

다윗이 분하여 그 곳을 베레스웃사라 부르니

그 이름이 오늘까지 이르니라

웃사를 침이라는 뜻

9   다윗이 그 날에 여호와를 두려워하여 이르되

여호와의 궤가 어찌 내게로 오리요 하고

 
10   다윗이 여호와의 궤를 옮겨

다윗 성 자기에게로 메어 가기를 즐겨하지 아니하고

가드 사람 오벧에돔의 집으로 메어 간지라

11   여호와의 궤가

가드 사람 오벧에돔의 집에 석 달을 있었는데

여호와께서 오벧에돔과 그의 온 집에 복을 주시니라

12   어떤 사람이 다윗 왕에게 아뢰어 이르되

여호와께서 하나님의 궤로 말미암아 오벧에돔의 집과

그의 모든 소유에 복을 주셨다 한지라

다윗이 가서 하나님의 궤를 기쁨으로 메고

오벧에돔의 집에서 다윗 성으로 올라갈새

13   여호와의 궤를 멘 사람들이 여섯 걸음을 가매

다윗이 소와 살진 송아지로 제사를 드리고

14   다윗이 여호와 앞에서 힘을 다하여 춤을 추는데

그 때에 다윗이 베 에봇을 입었더라

 
15   다윗과 온 이스라엘 족속이 즐거이 환호하며

나팔을 불고 여호와의 궤를 메어오니라

1   David brought together thirty thousand

of Israel's best soldiers and

2   led them to Baalah in Judah,

which was also called Kiriath-Jearim.

They were going there to get the sacred chest

and bring it back to Jerusalem.

The throne of the LORD All-Powerful is above

the winged creatures on top of this chest, and he is worshiped there.

to Baalah. . . there: The Dead Sea Scrolls and 1 Chronicles 13.6; the Standard Hebrew Text "from Baalah in Judah. They had gone there."

winged creatures: Two golden statues of winged creatures were on top of the sacred chest and were symbols of the LORD's throne on earth (see Exodus 25.18).

he is worshiped there: Or "the chest belongs to him."

3   They put the sacred chest on a new ox cart

and started bringing it down the hill from Abinadab's house.

Abinadab's sons Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the ox cart,

 

4   with Ahio walking in front of it.

Ahio. . . Ahio: Or "his brother. . . his brother."

5   Some of the people of Israel were playing music on small harps

and other stringed instruments,

and on tambourines, castanets,

and cymbals. David and the others were happy,

and they danced for the LORD with all their might.

6   But when they came to Nacon's threshing-floor,

the oxen stumbled, so Uzzah reached out

and took hold of the sacred chest.

7   The LORD God was very angry at Uzzah for doing this,

and he killed Uzzah right there beside the chest.

8   David got angry at God for killing Uzzah.

He named that place "Bursting Out Against Uzzah,"

and that's what it's still called.

Bursting. . . Uzzah: Or "Perez-Uzzah."

9   David was afraid of the LORD

and thought,

"Should I really take the sacred chest to my city?"

10   He decided not to take it there.

Instead, he turned off the road

and took it to the home of Obed Edom, who was from Gath.

Gath: Or perhaps, "Gittaim."

11-12   The chest stayed there for three months,

and the LORD greatly blessed Obed Edom,

his family, and everything he owned.

Then someone told King David,

"The LORD has done this

because the sacred chest is in Obed Edom's house."
Right away, David went to Obed Edom's house to get the chest

and bring it to David's City. Everyone was celebrating.

 
13   The people carrying the chest walked six steps,

then David sacrificed an ox and a choice cow.

14   He was dancing for the LORD with all his might, b

ut he wore only a linen cloth. 

only a linen cloth: The Hebrew word is "ephod," which can mean either a piece of clothing like a skirt that went from the waist to the knee or a garment like a vest or a jacket that only the priests wore.

15   He and everyone else were celebrating by shouting

and blowing horns while the chest was being carried along.
