섬기는 자가 되라

막10:32-45 (Mark10:32-45)

 

32 예루살렘으로 올라가는 길에

예수께서 그들 앞에 서서 가시는데

그들이 놀라고 따르는 자들은 두려워하더라

이에 다시 열두 제자를 데리시고

자기가 당할 일을 말씀하여 이르시되

33 보라 우리가 예루살렘에 올라가노니 인

자가 대제사장들과 서기관들에게 넘겨지매 그

들이 죽이기로 결의하고 이방인들에게 넘겨 주겠고

34 그들은 능욕하며 침 뱉으며 채찍질하고 죽일 것이나

그는 삼 일 만에 살아나리라 하시니라

35 세베대의 아들 야고보와 요한이 주께 나아와 여짜오되

선생님이여 무엇이든지 우리가 구하는 바를

우리에게 하여 주시기를 원하옵나이다

36 이르시되 너희에게 무엇을 하여 주기를 원하느냐

37 여짜오되 주의 영광중에서 우리를 하나는 주의 우편에,

하나는 좌편에 앉게 하여 주옵소서

38 예수께서 이르시되

너희는 너희가 구하는 것을 알지 못하는도다

내가 마시는 잔을 너희가 마실 수 있으며

내가 받는 세례를 너희가 받을 수 있느냐

 

39 그들이 말하되 할 수 있나이다 예수께서 이르시되

너희는 내가 마시는 잔을 마시며

내가 받는 세례를 받으려니와

 

40 내 좌우편에 앉는 것은 내가 줄 것이 아니라

누구를 위하여 준비되었든지 그들이 얻을 것이니라

41 열 제자가 듣고 야고보와 요한에 대하여 화를 내거늘

42 예수께서 불러다가 이르시되

이방인의 집권자들이 그들을 임의로 주관하고

그 고관들이 그들에게 권세를 부리는 줄을 너희가 알거니와

43 너희 중에는 그렇지 않을지니

너희 중에 누구든지

크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고

44 너희 중에 누구든지 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는

모든 사람의 종이 되어야 하리라

45 인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라

도리어 섬기려 하고

자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라

 

 

 

32 The disciples were confused as Jesus led them toward Jerusalem, a

nd his other followers were afraid.

Once again, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside

and told them what was going to happen to him.

He said:

33 We are now on our way to Jerusalem where the Son

of Man will be handed over to the chief priests

and the teachers of the Law of Moses.

They will sentence him to death and hand him over to foreigners,

 

34 who will make fun of him and spit on him. They will beat him

and kill him. But three days later he will rise to life.

35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to Jesus and asked,

"Teacher, will you do us a favor?"

36 Jesus asked them what they wanted,

37 and they answered,

"When you come into your glory, please let one of us sit at your right side

and the other at your left."

 

38 Jesus told them,

"You don't really know what you're asking!

Are you able to drink from the cup

that I must soon drink from or be baptized as I must be baptized?"

 

39 "Yes, we are!" James and John answered.
Then Jesus replied, "You certainly will drink from the cup from which I must drink.

And you will be baptized just as I must!

40 But it isn't for me to say who will sit at my right side

and at my left. That is for God to decide."

41 When the ten other disciples heard this, t

hey were angry with James and John.

42 But Jesus called the disciples together

and said: You know that those foreigners who call themselves

kings like to order their people around.

And their great leaders have full power over the people they rule.

43 But don't act like them. If you want to be great,

you must be the servant of all the others.

44 And if you want to be first,

you must be everyone's slave.

45 The Son of Man did not come to be a slave master,

but a slave who will give his life to rescue many people.
