열왕기상 11:1-13 (1 Kings 11:1-13)

1    솔로몬 왕이 바로의 딸 외에 이방의 많은 여인을 사랑하였으니

곧 모압과 암몬과 에돔과 시돈과 헷 여인이라

2    여호와께서 일찍이 이 여러 백성에 대하여 이스라엘 자손에게 말씀하시기를

너희는 그들과 서로 통혼하지 말며 그들도 너희와 서로 통혼하게 하지 말라

그들이 반드시 너희의 마음을 돌려 그들의 신들을 따르게 하리라 하셨으나

솔로몬이 그들을 사랑하였더라

 
3    왕은 후궁이 칠백 명이요 첩이 삼백 명이라

그의 여인들이 왕의 마음을 돌아서게 하였더라

4    솔로몬의 나이가 많을 때에

그의 여인들이 그의 마음을 돌려 다른 신들을 따르게 하였으므로

왕의 마음이 그의 아버지 다윗의 마음과 같지 아니하여

그의 하나님 여호와 앞에 온전하지 못하였으니

5    이는 시돈 사람의 여신 아스다롯을 따르고

암몬 사람의 가증한 밀곰을 따름이라

6    솔로몬이 여호와의 눈앞에서 악을 행하여

그의 아버지 다윗이 여호와를 온전히 따름 같이 따르지 아니하고

7    모압의 가증한 그모스를 위하여 예루살렘 앞 산에 산당을 지었고

또 암몬 자손의 가증한 몰록을 위하여 그와 같이 하였으며

8    그가 또 그의 이방 여인들을 위하여 다 그와 같이 한지라

그들이 자기의 신들에게 분향하며 제사하였더라

9    솔로몬이 마음을 돌려 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 떠나므로

여호와께서 그에게 진노하시니라

여호와께서 일찍이 두 번이나 그에게 나타나시고

10    이 일에 대하여 명령하사 다른 신을 따르지 말라 하셨으나

그가 여호와의 명령을 지키지 않았으므로

 
11    여호와께서 솔로몬에게 말씀하시되 네게 이러한 일이 있었고

또 네가 내 언약과 내가 네게 명령한 법도를 지키지 아니하였으니

내가 반드시 이 나라를 네게서 빼앗아 네 신하에게 주리라

12    그러나 네 아버지 다윗을 위하여 네 세대에는 이 일을 행하지 아니하고

네 아들의 손에서 빼앗으려니와

13    오직 내가 이 나라를 다 빼앗지 아니하고 내 종 다윗과

 내가 택한 예루살렘을 위하여 한 지파를 네 아들에게 주리라 하셨더라

1-2    The LORD did not want the Israelites to worship foreign gods,

so he had warned them not to marry anyone who was not from Israel.

Solomon loved his wife, the daughter of the king of Egypt.

But he also loved some women from Moab, Ammon, and Edom,

 and others from Sidon and the land of the Hittites.

3-4    Seven hundred of his wives were daughters of kings,

but he also married three hundred other women.
As Solomon got older, some of his wives led him to worship their gods.

He wasn't like his father David,

who had worshiped only the LORD God.

other women: This translates a Hebrew word for a woman who was legally bound to a man, but without the full privileges of a wife.

5    Solomon also worshiped Astarte the goddess of Sidon,

and Milcom the disgusting god of Ammon.

 
6    Solomon's father had obeyed the LORD with all his heart,

but Solomon disobeyed and did what the LORD hated.

7    Solomon built shrines on a hill east of Jerusalem to worship Chemosh

the disgusting god of Moab,

and Molech the disgusting god of Ammon.

 
8    In fact, he built a shrine for each of his foreign wives,

so all of them could burn incense

and offer sacrifices to their own gods.

 
9-10    The LORD God of Israel had appeared to Solomon two times

and warned him not to worship foreign gods.

But Solomon disobeyed and did it anyway.

This made the LORD very angry,

11    and he said to Solomon: You did what you wanted and not what I told you to do.

Now I'm going to take your kingdom from you

and give it to one of your officials.

12    But because David was your father, you will remain king as long as you live.

I will wait until your son becomes king,

then I will take the kingdom from him.

13    When I do, I will still let him rule one tribe,

because I have not forgotten that David was my servant

and Jerusalem is my city.
