믿음과 결단(1)

열왕기하 7:1-7 (2 Kings 7:1-8)

1    엘리사가 이르되 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다 여호와께서 이르시되

내일 이맘때에 사마리아 성문에서 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하고

보리 두 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하리라 하셨느니라

2    그 때에 왕이 그의 손에 의지하는 자 곧 한 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 이르되

여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이런 일이 있으리요 하더라

엘리사가 이르되 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하니라

3    성문 어귀에 나병환자 네 사람이 있더니 그 친구에게 서로 말하되

우리가 어찌하여 여기 앉아서 죽기를 기다리랴

4    만일 우리가 성읍으로 가자고 말한다면 성읍에는 굶주림이 있으니

우리가 거기서 죽을 것이요 만일 우리가 여기서 머무르면 역시 우리가 죽을 것이라

그런즉 우리가 가서 아람 군대에게 항복하자 그들이 우리를 살려 두면 살 것이요

우리를 죽이면 죽을 것이라 하고

5    아람 진으로 가려 하여 해 질 무렵에 일어나

아람 진영 끝에 이르러서 본즉 그 곳에 한 사람도 없으니

6    이는 주께서 아람 군대로 병거 소리와 말 소리와 큰 군대의 소리를 듣게 하셨으므로

아람 사람이 서로 말하기를 이스라엘 왕이 우리를 치려 하여

헷 사람의 왕들과 애굽 왕들에게 값을 주고 그들을 우리에게 오게 하였다 하고

7    해질 무렵에 일어나서 도망하되 그 장막과 말과 나귀를 버리고 진영을 그대로 두고

목숨을 위하여 도망하였음이라

1    Elisha answered, "I have a message for you.

The LORD promises that tomorrow here in Samaria,

you will be able to buy a large sack of flour or two large sacks of barley for almost nothing."

 
2    The chief officer there with the king replied,

"I don't believe it! Even if the LORD sent a rainstorm,

it couldn't produce that much grain by tomorrow."
"You will see it happen, but you won't eat any of the food,

" Elisha warned him.

3    About the same time, four men with leprosy were just outside the gate of Samaria.

They said to each other, "Why should we sit here, waiting to die?

leprosy: See the note at 5.1.

4    There's nothing to eat in the city,

so we would starve if we went inside. But if we stay out here, we will die for sure.

Let's sneak over to the Syrian army camp and surrender.

They might kill us, but they might not."

5-8    That evening the four men got up and left for the Syrian camp.
As they walked toward the camp,

the Lord caused the Syrian troops to hear what sounded like the roar of a huge cavalry.

The soldiers said to each other,

"Listen! The king of Israel must have hired Hittite

and Egyptian troops to attack us. Let's get out of here!"

So they ran out of their camp that night,

leaving their tents and horses and donkeys.
When the four men with leprosy reached the edge of the Syrian camp,

no one was there. They walked into one of the tents, where they ate and drank,

 before carrying off clothes, as well as silver and gold.

 They hid all this, then walked into another tent;

 they took what they wanted and hid it too.
